At the Charles-County Animal Care Center:
Koda would like everyone to know that not all superheroes wear capes. Some wear fur, take dramatic strolls around the neighborhood, and spend their afternoons supervising the backyard from the shadiest spot available.
This 6-month-old Shepherd mix is always happy, ridiculously handsome, and currently searching for a home with comfy dog beds, plenty of walks, and a snack budget that matches his ambitions.
Koda is ready to bring his sunshine-on-a-cloudy-day energy to a new family! Meet him during adoption hours, Monday-Friday 11am-4pm and Saturday 10am-3pm.

Attention!
Sir Ralph Featherbottom (he insists on just "Ralph") is searching for a new coop to rule.
After being discovered on an unsanctioned neighborhood stroll, Ralph was escorted to the animal care center where he has been busy supervising staff, inspecting snack deliveries, and practicing his morning announcements. While his reasons for wandering remain unclear, rumors include a search for better feed, a quest for adventure, or simply forgetting where he parked his flock.
Ralph is a handsome gentleman with excellent feather fashion and plenty of rooster confidence. He is now ready to trade his days of neighborhood exploration for a coop of his own, complete with fresh air, tasty treats, and subjects who appreciate an enthusiastic wake-up call.
If your flock is missing a charismatic leader, Ralph is prepared to step into the role immediately. Meet him during adoption hours M-F 11am-4pm and Saturday 10am-3pm.
Meet your new adventure buddy, Sassy! This beautiful 11-month-old Doberman mix is spayed, potty-trained, and ready for her forever home. Sassy is a happy, affectionate girl who loves people, enjoys playing with other dogs, and never says no to a splash in the water. Smart and eager to please, she's food and toy motivated, learns quickly, has good recall, crates willingly, and has great indoor manners. Because she's still a young, enthusiastic pup who can get a little bouncy when excited, she'd do best with older children. She is looking for a cat-free home where she can be the best companion possible. If you're looking for a fun-loving, loyal sidekick for all of life's adventures, come meet her during adoption hours! Meet her during adoption hours, Monday-Friday 11am-4pm and Saturday 10am-3pm.

At St. Mary's Adoption and Resource Center:
Meet this sweet beauty named Blanca! This girl is very nervous when first meeting new people but will quickly adjust given time. Blanca does not appear confident in herself just yet. She depends on her human for comfort and will need a family that will help her become more confident! Due to an incident in her previous adoptive home, we would not recommend Blanca be adopted into a home with other dogs, cats or small animals. She is extremely timid, and young children may frighten her. This girl is looking for someone, preferably with GSD experience, that can build her confidence and provide her with a safe and patient home. Adoption applications can be submitted in person at the St. Mary's County Animal Adoption & Resource Center located at 22975 FDR Blvd California, MD 20619 View all adoptable animals here: https://www.stmaryscountymd.gov/animalshelter/Adoptable/

Meet Lewey: A Beagle Who Never Gave Up Hope. Some dogs come to us with stories that break our hearts but also remind us just how resilient dogs can be. Meet Lewey, a sweet 1 year old, 27.5-pound Beagle who spent approximately four months surviving on his own, wandering as a stray and trying to make it through each day. Despite numerous efforts, no one came forward looking for him, and there were no reports of him missing.
Thankfully, Lewey's story took a turn for the better when a compassionate family refused to give up on him. After weeks of trying, they were finally able to safely trap and rescue him. His rescuers immediately got him veterinary care, vaccinations, and, most importantly, a safe place to begin healing.
It's clear that Lewey has not always been treated with the kindness he deserves. He can be timid and cautious when meeting new people, but every day, this brave little Beagle is learning that not all humans will hurt him.
And the progress he has made is incredible. Lewey absolutely adores other dogs. In fact, his foster family's dog has become his security blanket, best friend, teacher, and confidence coach all rolled into one. He follows his canine buddy everywhere and is learning how wonderful life as a beloved family dog can be. With patience, love, and another friendly dog to show him the ropes, Lewey continues to blossom. A huge thank you to Samantha and her family for refusing to look the other way, for rescuing Lewey, caring for him, and continuing to foster him while he waits for his forever family. Because of your kindness, Lewey's future is brighter than ever. Now, Lewey is ready for the next chapter of his journey, a forever home filled with love, patience, and the security he has always deserved. We know the perfect family is out there waiting for this sweet boy. If you are interested in meeting Lewey, please submit an adoption application through our website.
